After 3 years, I again had the great fortune to visit the fully vibrating shrine of pidari kuzhumayi amman temple at the banks of Eyyakondan river.
Bliss is not in the objects but in the seer who sees the objects. When I went this time on a fresh Friday morning around 9:15 AM, the morning puja was going on with the curtain.
With the heat of sun already descending in Trichy, it is very hot even around 9 AM. I was waiting near the sanctum sanctorum with other devotees who had gathered. It was very pulsating. I was fully drenched in sweat. Someone was piercing a lemon into one of the spears kept next to the inner sanctum.
When the curtains were opened, I saw Pidari with the silver kavacham for the forehead, eyes and tongue. The mood or bhava of the goddess was at the first sight very motherly, showing the aspect of the cosmic Mother who bestows knowledge and liberation.
As I looked and looked into her form, sometimes the aspect of Kali showed with ugra and anger, but for the most part , it was only the cosmic form that revealed itself.
I offered the dry grapes, sugar candy and the incense I had bought this time for the offering.
The poosari did the puja , placed the nivedhya pongal in a stone , waved sampraani and then karpoora harathi. He requested me to distribute the Prasad that I had bought from my hands to the people who had gathered. I did .
Pidari is not only Mother. one step above. she includes all . she embraces all . you go as you are. you are changed. your character is changed. sinner or pious, you are taken and accepted as such.
I came out and took snaps in and around the shrine. There were goats tied near a big banyan tree. There was a board mentioning about the specialty of offering goats and cocks.
This is kali's form and is worshiped by people including uneducated, physically laboring and other farmers, villagers.
But I belong to none. I don't belong or approve of orthodoxy beyond a certain threshold. Similar way I don't approve of blood sacrifices beyond a threshold. I am a wanderer, alone in my path and my thought process is quite unique to me. So I have learnt only to focus on the main deity which is pidari here.
I don't care what people say or approve of my points.
Whatever you try to fit in, She is not that. She cannot be described nor her qualities. She is as it is. It is a great abyss.
People say she punishes and she is very angry. it is not correct. she is angry. But she never punishes. because who is to punish whom? When there is One, what is the use in punishing?
People say she protects whoever comes and worships her. it is also not correct. what is their to protect? the perishable body anyway cannot be protected eternally. the soul or the atma is changeless and never decays. in between is our mind or ego. She protects what?
